Bitumen mastics constitute the bulk of the membranes specified in a variety of service conditions except in the case of high temperature and solvent based environments. Membranes form the vital part in AR lining methodology as the phasing brick or tile and the mortar has some finite porosity which allows penetration of the corrosive medium thru these materials but restricted at the membrane interface thereby protecting the substrate. The membrane thus forms the ultimate defense against the penetrating corrosive chemicals and guards the structure or equipment thus lined.
